Kannon "Cavie" Cross... The Spirit Of Hip-Hop Past, Present, AND Future

The Life story of Music Producer Kannon Cross, a.k.a. “Caviar” a.k.a. “Cavie“, plays out like a Who’s Who of Hip-Hop’s Most Influential and Historic Figures.Take for example the fact that Cavie was plucked out of the streets of Compton as an adolescent at the ripe old age of 12 by none other than N.W.A. Co-Founder and Ruthless Records CEO Eazy-E, along with DJ Train after showing young Cavie the difference in lives he could experience if he went from the Streets to the Hip-Hop Scene. And so he did. A teenage Cavie was blessed enough to live out his teenage years under the wings of N.W.A. Members, Eazy, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, MC Ren and the D.O.C., watching them put together what would now be considered legendary works in the Hip-Hop realm and its West Coast Gangsta Rap movement.

From there, Cavie moved to Blackground Entertainment, run by Barry Hankerson, uncle to the also legendary Aaliyah. At Blackground, Cavie worked with Hip-Hop’s greatest collaborative and creative minds, which not only included Aaliyah, but also Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott and Timbaland. Cavie’s relationship with Timbaland continues to this day, as the two are set to work on a few upcoming tracks. Cavie began working on several projects with Aaliyah, including songs such as “Back in One Piece,” featuring DMX. The song was a big hit on the “Romeo Must Die” soundtrack. Blackground also hired Cavie to work with R&B artist, Tank, producing songs such as “Street Life” and “My Freak.” Cavie even mentions how Aaliyah’s final album was set to be a double album, which was to feature various tracks from Cavie, but as we know, that double album would never come to be.

Cavie has lent his musical fingerprints to artists that we all know and love, like Mack 10, Ice Cube, Xzibit, T.I. and DMX… but was recently called by none other than Cee-Lo Green himself to not only work on Cee-Lo’s upcoming solo effort, but to also add his musical talents to the upcoming and highly anticipated and long overdue Goodie Mob album, which brings Cee-Lo back to the Dungeon Family based crew, which includes T-Mo, Big Gipp and Khujo, that made them all famous along with Outkast. These projects are not the only albums on Cavie’s plate. He recently agreed to work with Teddy Riley and another album for Macy Gray, and he’s also crafting hits for the comeback albums for T.I. and DMX.

The Hip-Hop scene of the South is definitely familiar with Cavie’s work, after moving to Atlanta in 2001 and producing tracks for T.I., beginning with work on “Urban Legend” and continuing to “King”, where he produced the menacing track, “Undertaker”.   In the South, Cavie played his beats to Crime Mob, Young Dro and Ciara. Cavie also had the privilege of producing some of the late Pimp C’s last recorded songs.

And if that wasn’t enough… can you believe Cavie’s about to drop a track with Joe Jonas ??? Damn homey, talk about versatility. Versatility is definitely something that Cavie is all too familiar with, after his 2010 hit record with Macy Gray, “Beauty in the World”, generated several television placements including; “Ugly Betty”, “Law and Order LA”, “What Chilli Wants”, and the Ashton Kutcher film “Killers”. Other Macy Gray collabs also made it on the screens like “Kissed It” which became the Summertime theme the Bravo network and “Stand Up” which was in the movie “For Colored Girls”.

So when it comes to the real History of Hip-Hop, it’s time to scratch what you “think” you know… and it’s time you know what’s been really goin on.  The man with the Rock Hard “Cavie” has been filling your ears and souls with that funk that your favorite artists have lent their voices and minds to, all to be the influential move makers that Hip-Hop is known for.  And as Cavie prepares to set his eyes on his past dues of Superstardom, we can’t wait to see what Cavie will be releasing, both for others, as well as himself.
